The REI Saver Medical Plan is a Consumer-Directed Health Plan (CDHP) administered by Aetna that allows you to:

  • Open a Health Savings Account (HSA). REI will contribute a particular amount per pay period based on your coverage (individual or family). You can also contribute your own money to use toward qualified health care expenses.
  • Pay lower payroll deductions but requires you to meet a higher deductible.

Check out the medical FAQs for answers to frequently asked questions about the REI Saver Medical Plan and for more information about the HSA.

Visit aetna.com/docfind/custom/rei/ to find an in-network provider.

The REI Choice Medical Plan, administered by Aetna, works like a PPO plan in which you:

  • Can choose an in-network provider or facility (better coverage) or go outside the network.
  • Meet a deductible before the plan pays, then pay coinsurance for most services (except in-network preventive care).

Two of the Kaiser medical plans are HMOs (health maintenance organizations).

  • If you live in a Kaiser service area ZIP code in Washington, California or Colorado, you may enroll in a Kaiser medical plan.
  • When using a Kaiser HMO Plan, you’ll visit Kaiser medical centers to receive care and get prescriptions. You will select a Kaiser primary care physician (PCP) from Kaiser’s network. Your PCP coordinates care and refers you to specialists. Kaiser locations encompass a wide array of doctors and other professionals. However, you don’t receive coverage if you use a provider outside the plan’s network.
  • Kaiser plans restrict where you can receive care. For more information on plan services and costs, visit the Benefits Plan Information and Costs Tool, visit my.kp.org/rei to find a provider or click here to learn more about Kaiser.
  • Call customer service at 1-800-324-9208 or text 773-974-3113 Monday through Friday from 7 am–6 pm PT / 10 am–9 pm ET to get your questions answered and understand if this plan is right for you.

Two of the Kaiser medical plans are HDHPs (High Deductible Health Plans).

  • If you live in a Kaiser service area ZIP code in Washington, California or Colorado, you may enroll in a Kaiser medical plan.
  • With a Kaiser High Deductible Health Plan, you’re eligible to enroll in a Health Savings Account (HSA), which allows you to put aside pre-tax dollars that can be used for eligible health care expenses.
  • Kaiser plans restrict where you can receive care. For more information on plan services and costs, visit the Benefits Plan Information and Costs Tool, visit my.kp.org/rei to find a provider or click here to learn more about Kaiser.

Who's it for?
You want to pay less for coverage out of each paycheck and don’t mind the higher deductible. You also want the flexibility to take advantage of the tax savings that come with a Health Savings Account (HSA) and an HSA contribution from REI.
You prefer to pay more out of your paycheck for coverage in exchange for greater peace of mind due to predictable out-of-pocket costs. The Plan comes with a Health Care Flexible Spending Account to help you pay for eligible health care expenses tax-free.
You’re comfortable staying in the Kaiser HMO network and paying more out of your paycheck for coverage. If you need to visit your in-network doctor or get prescriptions, you like that you generally only have to pay copays.

The REI Options plan provides employees the choice to select one of three fee-for-service plans (Core, Preventive or Plus), also called indemnity health insurance plans.

REI Options Plan

The REI Options Plan administered by Administrative Concepts (ACI) utilizes the First Health Network and are indemnity health plans. Indemnity health plans provide fixed payment for specific health care services such as doctor visits, hospitals stays or preventive care.

When you go to a provider or hospital, present your ID card and the provider will file the claim directly with ACI on your behalf. When it has been processed, ACI will pay the provider first and send you any benefit that is remaining, if appropriate. If ACI has paid the provider and there is still a balance due, it’s your responsibility to pay any remaining balance.

The three plans—Core, Preventive and Plus—all offer:

  • Virtual primary care: All plans offer access to Virtual Primary Care benefits through Recuro Health. Recuro provides telehealth services to address your routine medical issues on demand, 24/7, by phone or video from the convenience of your home or office.
  • Health care coverage: In-person healthcare coverage is provided through the First Health Network.
    • Find a First Health Network provider at firsthealthlbp.com or by calling 1-800-226-5116.
  • Prescription drug coverage: Each plan offers prescription drug coverage administered by Drexi and, if eligible, Rx Assist for ACA-designated preventive medications.
    • To get more information on pharmacy-specific pricing of your medication, you can call Administrative Concepts (ACI) at 1-888-240-0231.

How It Works

  1. Freedom of provider choice: You can visit any licensed doctor, specialist or hospital—no referrals or network restrictions. You receive the deepest discount by using providers in the First Health Network.
  2. No claim forms: You present your card to the provider or hospital; they will then submit an itemized bill to ACI for reimbursement.
    • Reimbursement is based on a fixed amount per service up to a maximum number of days within the plan year.

You will want to take a look at the Benefits Plan Information and Costs to determine if the Core, Preventive or Plus plans are right for you.

Network Coverage

The Options Plan uses the First Health Network, a national PPO network with wide-ranging access. Employees are free to use any provider they choose when they access services. If you choose a provider who participates in the First Health PPO Network, you may be eligible for discounts toward the total amount due for services. This could reduce the amount owed after the full benefit has been paid by the plan.

Find an in-network provider through the First Health Network here.

Preventive care benefits

Solving health problems is good. Preventing them is better. That’s why you won’t have to pay coinsurance or meet your deductible for in-network preventive care in any of our medical plans. In addition, for medical plans administered by Optum Rx, certain preventive drugs will be covered at 100% or will not be subject to the deductible.

Affordable Care Act

If you’re eligible for an REI-sponsored medical plan, you will not be eligible to receive a premium subsidy or health insurance tax credit for medical coverage purchased from a state or federal Health Insurance Marketplace plan. Once you become eligible for an REI-sponsored medical plan, you need to notify the Health Insurance Marketplace to remove your subsidy or you could receive a tax penalty.

You have the option to receive your Form 1095-C electronically. To update how you receive your Form 1095-C or any U.S. wage and tax statements, log into Employee Self Service > Pay > US Wage and Tax Statements. In the right-hand menu under Things I Can Do, select Change Paperless Preferences.

To access your Form 1095-C, log into Employee Self Service and select Myself > Benefits > 1095-C. Directions for printing and saving the Form 1095-C are available when you access your form. You may need Adobe or Word software to download and save the form to your computer. You may be required to print your Form 1095-C and attach it to your Federal, State or local income tax return. If you would like to request a paper copy of this form, or if your contact information has changed, please contact the Employee Service Center at hrhr@rei.com or 1-800-999-4734.

Not eligible for an REI medical plan? Visit healthcare.gov for more information.

If you are considering obtaining insurance through the Marketplace, review the resources below.

  • Information about REI’s coverage: You’ll need these details to complete your application for coverage.
  • Marketplace contact details: If you need more details, visit healthcare.gov.
  • Use the Kaiser Subsidy Calculator to estimate your eligibility for subsidies and how much you could spend on health insurance.

The Form 1095-C is required by the IRS to report the health care coverage provided to you. It helps determine whether you are eligible for the Premium Tax Credit and is necessary for completing your federal tax return.

Travel & Lodging Benefits

Gender Affirming and Fertility Services

REI offers Travel & Lodging benefits for employees and enrolled eligible dependents who have pre-certified medical and prescription services from an in-network provider and must travel more than 100 miles for services. The benefit provides up to $10,000 for certain Travel & Lodging benefits (see IRS publication 502), including:

  • Lodging
  • Airfare (domestic, coach, non-refundable ticket)
  • Taxi or shared ride costs
  • Meals (at a hospital or similar institution)
  • Other incidental costs (e.g., parking) associated with receiving medical care

Submit expenses online through aetna.com or through the Aetna Health App. Once logged in, select Claims from the menu and then Submit a Claim. Follow the prompts to provide details regarding the dates of service and expenses. Upload any forms or receipts and submit once completed.
