What’s New for 2024

REI is committed to rewarding co-op employees with competitive pay and benefits, plus unique perks to get outside. Our plans continue to provide the same great benefits you’ve seen in the past, with a few new items that become effective January 1, 2024, unless otherwise noted.

Aetna Medical Plans—Saver & Choice

Family Building and Reproductive Services

REI is enhancing our medical plans to improve access to reproductive benefits. Infertility benefits will be referred to as fertility benefits beginning in 2024 and will improve accessibility to employees and their enrolled dependents regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity or marital status.

Reproductive services include physical examinations, laboratory studies, diagnostic procedures, non-surgical and surgical treatments, medications, artificial insemination and advanced reproductive technology (IUI and IVF). For more detailed information, visit myaetnawebsite.com or contact the Health Guide at 1-800-451-2967.

Gender Affirming Care

REI is expanding access to gender affirming care to include the following procedures beginning in 2024:

  • Tracheal shave/reduction
  • Facial feminization surgeries
  • Voice modification surgery
  • Voice modification therapy
  • Lipoplasty/filling for body masculinization or feminization
  • Hair removal (such as electrolysis, laser treatment) not part of reconstructive surgery

For more information, log in through myaetnawebsite.com > Health & Wellness > Transgender and Gender Diverse Support Center or connect with a dedicated representative with experience in transgender and gender-diverse services by contacting the Health Guide at 1-800-451-2967.

Preventive Care

Preventive care is covered for FREE when you use an in-network provider or facility. That’s right—screenings and prescription drugs that won’t cost you a penny.

REI Choice Medical Plan

Primary Care and Behavioral Health

To make your costs more predictable when you visit a primary care or behavioral health provider, we’re changing how you pay for care from coinsurance to a copay. When seeing a primary care or behavioral health provider, you’ll now pay a $30 copay, which is not subject to the plan deductible.

Medical and Prescription Out-of-Pocket Maximums

The Aetna Choice Plan currently has two different out-of-pocket maximums, one for medical costs only (such as a doctor visit) and another for prescription drugs. To support equity in health care coverage, for 2024 this change combines and reduces the medical and prescription out-of-pocket maximums to $3,750 for individual coverage or $7,500 for family coverage.

Prescription Deductible

The $50 prescription drug deductible on the Aetna Choice and Custom Choice Plans will be eliminated for 2024. This also means that the deductible will no longer apply to prescription drugs filled through a retail pharmacy or through mail order.

Health Care 101

Deductible: Medical and prescription plans have a deductible that needs to be met before the plan pays for covered prescriptions.

Out-of-Pocket Maximum: All medical plans have an out-of-pocket maximum, which is the maximum amount you pay before the plan pays 100% of covered services for the remainder of the plan year.

Kaiser Medical Plans (WA, CA, CO)

Deductibles and Out-of-Pocket Maximums

The deductible and out-of-pocket maximum will change for 2024. The deductible will be $500 for individual coverage and $1,000 for family coverage. The out-of-pocket maximum will be $3,000 for individual coverage and $6,000 for family coverage.

Leaves of Absence

State Paid Family Leave Benefits

Colorado Family and Medical Leave Insurance Program (FAMLI)

Colorado FAMLI benefits will become available beginning January 2024. You’re eligible to take paid leave through FAMLI after you have earned at least $2,500 in wages with the state of Colorado over a period of a year. You may use FAMLI leave to take time away from work to:

  • Care for a new child, including adopted and fostered children.
  • Care for yourself if you have a serious health condition.
  • Care for a family member’s serious health condition.
  • Make arrangements for a family member’s military deployment.
  • Address the immediate safety need and impacts of domestic violence and/or sexual assault.

FAMLI provides leave and wage replacement benefits, which are capped at $1,100 per week. You can estimate your potential benefits by using the Premiums and Benefits Estimator. If you’re eligible, you can start receiving benefits beginning in 2024 and can use the FAMLI claims portal to file for benefits. You can file a claim 30 days prior to the first date of absence and up to 30 days after an absence. If you have a planned absence due to a scheuled surgery or the birth of a child, you can file your claim in advance. The FAMLI system for claims is expected to be live in December of 2023. Please see the FAMLI website for additional details.

As a reminder, Colorado FAMLI leave and paid benefits run concurrenlty with REI’s leave and disability benefits. In addition to filing for benefits through the state, you’ll also need to file a leave of absence with Lincoln Financial either online at mylincolnportal.com or by calling 1-800-451-2967, option 3. Your disability pay (Short-Term Disability or salary continuation) will be offset (reduced) by the amount you’re expected to recieve through the state.
